»Zine workspace: The library as a place of remembrance«

Description

Public libraries are important places of remembrance. They can help us remember and understand the past and thus contribute to a better future. But what memories does the library bring back? And why do these memories matter? It's exactly these lesser-known memories that should be about: because they determine how people perceive the library and how new visitors find their way into the library - or not.

All visitors to the library who want to deal with these and other questions in a creative and artistic way in an open workspace are invited. The aim is to create zines that will be compiled into a book that will be available for free in the library from spring 2025. Zines – short for English. magazine – are mini-books and mini-magazines that are folded from a sheet of paper.

They are guided by the artist collective VON WEIT HER(GEHOLT) and Dr. Melike Peterson, head of the project “The Library and the Right to the City”, a joint project between the University of Bremen and Stadtbibliothek Bremen .
