Salman Nurhak: “Musical Reading with Saz”

Description

The poet and author Salman Nurhak recites poems from his works and articles in Turkish, Kurdish and German. He leads his listeners to ancient rivers and snowy high mountains, creating encounters with wolves, ants, birds, spiders, sunflowers and crops in every season. According to the poet, love plays a central role in his poems. He accompanies the reading musically on his Saz, a long-necked lute.

Salman Nurhak, born in 1963, comes from southeastern Anatolia. The Kurdish-Alevi poet has been living in exile in Bremen for a good two decades. Some of the autodidact's poems are memories of home, of familiar scents, trees and flowers, but they are also memories of battles, wire mesh and torture.
