ReadingArt with Tom Adler: »Richard Wagner II – “The Ring of the Nibelungs”«

Description

Richard Wagner's magnum opus , is one of the most extensive and important works in music history. Conceived as a universal, always valid myth, The Ring of the Nibelungs also tells contemporary history: central themes of the 19th century, such as criticism of capitalism, politics and philosophy, were incorporated into the text and music. The research examines the work from aspects such as gender issues, coded anti-Semitism as well as ethics and morals in a society. – An all-round blow should go through the action and music of the ring and offer a selection of readings through selected focal points.

Tom Adler, born in 1999, studied musicology at the Franz Liszt University of Music in Weimar and has been actively working on Wagner research in the Oesterlein Collection in Eisenach since 2018. Parallel to his studies, he worked as a teacher at the Weimar University, but also gave lectures on musical theater in the 19th century with the work of Richard Wagner as a focus in cooperation with the Richard Wagner sites in Graupa, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar and the Semperoper Dresden.
