»Gender on... TAGALOG – gender-neutral and yet special«

Description

Tagalog is one of the ergative languages ​​spoken in the Philippines that has characteristics of gender neutrality. In the practice-oriented lecture, our teacher Joyce Salita introduce us to her language, its regional-political-historical context and practical usage scenarios. It will show examples of gender-neutral characteristics as well as cases of gender marking. Finally, it will give us insights into the impact of these features on spoken language in Filipino society.

The “Genders on…” series is organized by the Language Center of the Universities in the State of Bremen together with the Senator for the Environment, Climate and Science, the Bremen Language Council, the Instituto Cervantes, the Goethe Institute and the Institut français. The series is dedicated to egalitarian language, respectful treatment of genders and non-sexist communication. It's about how different languages ​​deal with this highly topical topic and what solutions the respective languages ​​offer.
