“The Trans-Siberian Railway – An Asian-Russian-European lifeline”
Description
The Trans-Siberian Railway has stretched over 9,000 km and across nine time zones for over 100 years through Russia, Mongolia and China. The exhibition by curator Dr. Thomas Meyer-Bohé (retired construction director) will show the importance of the railway line not only for Russia, but also for Europe, because the construction was already a successful pan-European project.
Rare Russian archive photos from the period of railway construction at the end of the 19th century are shown: sometimes morbid, romantic and often cruel in their demands on people and material. Impressive photos of the current technical infrastructure and the taiga landscape round off the exhibition.
