»The Findorff settlements in Teufelsmoor near Worpswede«

Description

An event as part of the Sustainability Action Days.

The focus of the Stadtbibliothek Bremen 's “Sustainability Action Week” this year is on the topic of “Democracy”.

The publication by editors Wolfgang Konukiewitz and Dieter Weiser was revised and the third edition appeared in June 2024. All texts are illustrated with historical and current images by Dieter Weiser. Together with many maps and numerous drawings, a modern local book about the Teufelsmoor as a unique region was created. From 1750 onwards, the largest populated moor area in Germany was created here as part of the moor colonization. In hard work, the new settlers dug ditches, built cottages on the raised moor and cut peat, which they transported to Bremen in barges over the newly created waterways as fuel. The history of moor use, the peat trade and the emergence of the Findorff settlements are discussed, as are the Moor Express, the history of the churches in the moor, art and literature. The moor as a natural experiential space and future renaturation are other topics that will be discussed.

Cooperation: Edition Temmen.
