“It’s all family!” Family depictions in current picture books

Description

The social changes of the last few decades affect all areas of life, including the family. Children today grow up in a wide variety of family contexts: in traditional father-mother-child families, alone with their mother or father, in patchwork or rainbow families or with foster parents.

“Alles Familie!” shows how this development is reflected in current picture book production Systematically structured, aesthetically pleasing examples of all conceivable family models and central aspects of family life are presented. In addition to the beautiful sides of family life and the everyday challenges, such as jealousies between siblings or living in two households after the parents' separation, the dark sides of family life are also not left out. Entertaining, stimulating, funny and challenging.
