Future opportunity training

The Senate of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen and the Chamber of Crafts and Commerce see themselves as responsible for creating sustainable career prospects, especially for young refugees. That’s why the “Future Opportunity Training” program was launched in 2014. A one-year entry-level qualification (EQ), which is financed by the employment agency, is intended to create the conditions for a smooth transition to dual vocational training. In 2017, up to 80 young people who were assigned to the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen as refugees and who live in Bremen can take advantage of this opportunity. They should be given the opportunity to learn a skilled trade. As part of the entry-level qualification, a wide range of training positions is offered in various commercial, technical, craft or IT professions. With the start of EQ, vocational school lessons in the first year of training are attended. In order to further develop German language skills, additional language support is organized. In addition, you can take advantage of support during your training.

The Stadtbibliothek also sees itself as responsible and is participating in this project. Two participants in the project are currently working in our central library and are completing their training to become specialists in media and information services (FaMI). Two more refugees are expected to begin their training in the Stadtbibliothek in the summer.

The project was recently presented by the library's target group representative, Ms. Britta Schmedemann, and the Syrian trainee, Ms. Marwa Malki, at the 106th Librarians' Day in Frankfurt am Main. The lecture on entry-level qualification led to an active exchange and we are sure that other federal states and libraries will soon follow Bremen's example and develop programs for the successful integration of refugees into the labor market.

Further information about the project can be obtained from the Training and Further Education Center of the State of Bremen and, for entry-level qualifications, from the Stadtbibliothek Bremen :
