World Literacy Day: Information booth in Weserpark
on September 8th , we take the opportunity to focus on people who cannot read and write, or whose reading and writing skills are limited: In Germany, this affects 6.2 million people aged 18-64. While they can read and write words or short sentences, they struggle to understand coherent texts. These include, for example, work instructions, package inserts, recipes, timetables, or official letters. They often face significant challenges in their private and professional lives.
To jointly raise awareness of the situation of people with low reading and writing skills, stakeholders from Bremen and Bremerhaven have joined forces on the occasion of this year's International Literacy Day and planned various activities related to reading and writing: From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., visitors to Weserpark can take part in a quiz, make bookmarks with their children, feel letters, or find out about language learning opportunities in the state of Bremen.
Among those presenting are the Service Center for Basic Education and Literacy (at the Protestant Education Center Bremen), the Bremen Adult Education Center, Stadtbibliothek Bremen and Diakonie Bremen.
