Statement against anti-Semitism

We would therefore like to emphasize that we expressly agree with the following statement from the German Library Association (dbv):

“The German Library Association (dbv) and its member libraries are committed to education and the formation of informed and appropriate opinions. This also applies to the Middle East conflict and its historical roots. We see ourselves as spaces for and enablers of civil and understanding-oriented dialogue. The inhumane terrorist attack by Hamas on Israel and the suffering of the Palestinian civilian population in the re-escalating Middle East conflict cause us great sympathy and deep sympathy. Anti-Semitic hatred and violence are completely unacceptable, especially in Germany.

Under no circumstances can people in Germany feel unsafe because of their Jewish faith. A sustainable peace solution can only succeed if a return to dialogue and an orientation towards understanding is found. As libraries, we want to help strengthen civility and overcome ignorance here.”
