Winners of the Bremen Literature Prize honored digitally

The Bremen Literature Prize was awarded for the 67th time on May 31, 2021, and yet there was a premiere this year: for the first time, the award was not presented in Bremen town hall, but rather virtually. Due to the corona pandemic, the award winners Marion Poschmann and Jana Volkmann unable to accept the award in person. They were invited to the hybrid event together with the laudation authors Richard Kämmerlings and Dr. Daniela Strigl joined in from Berlin and Vienna.

Bremen's Mayor, Senator for Culture Dr. Andreas Bovenschulte, congratulated Marion Poschmann and Jana Volkmann on their awards. In his opening speech, he emphasized, among other things, “that the works of the two prize winners, although their prize-winning books belong to different genres, are united by a thematic focus: both here and there it is about the complex relationship between external and internal nature. A topic that is always and still very current.” Marion Poschmann was honored for her volume of poetry “Nimbus” . The sponsorship award went to Jana Volkmann for her novel “Auwald” . Barbara Lison, Managing Director of the Rudolf Alexander Schröder Foundation and Director of the Stadtbibliothek Bremen led the award ceremony from the Wall Hall of the Stadtbibliothek . The prizes were presented by the Chairman of the Rudolf Alexander Schröder Foundation, former State Secretary Michael Sieber. The award ceremony was musically accompanied by the Bremen pianist Nicolai Thein.
