New interactive book “Superbremisch”
It was a particularly exciting morning for the sixteen fourth-grade students, the "Owls," from the Buntentorsteinweg all-day elementary school and their teacher, Xenia Hirsch, who visited the children's library in mid-November. First on the agenda was a very interesting presentation about whales, the sea, and plastic by biologist Sacha Viquerat.
Afterwards, a big surprise awaited the class in the children's section of the central library: The new interactive book "Superbremisch" was presented fresh off the press and given to all the visibly delighted children. Published by the Bremen-based Schünemann Verlag, the book is beautifully designed inside and out by Bremen-based graphic designer and illustrator Valeska Scholz . Entertaining and engaging, it teaches the young Bremen residents interesting and informative facts about their city. The class received a warm welcome from Barbara Lison, director of the Stadtbibliothek Bremen , who revealed that she had brought the idea for the book back from Amsterdam. A similar interactive book already exists there and, according to Lison, has proven "to be a meaningful and identity-forming activity for children."
Her book idea met with great enthusiasm from Bremen publisher Hermann Schünemann, and further supporters were found: the Karin and Uwe Hollweg Foundation and the Friends of the Stadtbibliothek Bremen. Hermann Schünemann and Karin Hollweg attended the launch in person. The advisory board of the Friends of the Stadtbibliothek was represented by Cornelius Neumann-Redlin and Bernd Karstedt. The book was printed in an initial edition of 5,000 copies and will be given to all fourth-grade students in Bremen who attend a lecture at the library.
