Collecting trash and enjoying coffee
Libraries, as everyone knows, offer much more than just books, CDs, and DVDs. In Vegesack, you can now also litter collection kits from Bremen's city cleaning department . Each kit consists of a grabber, a bucket, and a pair of gloves. Anyone who goes out equipped with these kits to collect litter and then delivers it to the library will receive a specialty coffee in the library café. There's also a nice surprise for children who help out.
“Unfortunately, trash and cigarette butts are everywhere. With this offer, we want to encourage people who care about their neighborhood to participate and to honor their commitment,” explains Martin Renz, head of the Vegesack district library, regarding the idea.
"The Stadtbibliothek Bremen supports the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. In Vegesack, for example, we do this with activities in the library garden, environmental education events, our clothing exchange, and the exchange shelf, where items that are too good to throw away can change hands. The waste collection kits from Bremen's city cleaning department are an excellent addition to our services."
