Kessi conjures up talking books

The “Friends of the Stadtbibliothek ” association sponsors hearing aids and books for the TING Stadtbibliothek

Last Friday (February 12th), the “Friends of the Stadtbibliothek Bremen ” association handed over TING audio pens and 30 associated titles to the Stadtbibliothek Bremen . In the presence of Lucia Werder, the deputy director of the Stadtbibliothek , as well as children from the St. Hedwig daycare center, Rainer Kulenkampff and Hermann Schünemann from the board of the support association presented a large gift package in the Vahr district library.

Letter raven Kessi had prepared something very special for the daycare children present: with a hat and magic wand, the mascot of the Stadtbibliothek Bremen was waiting for the young visitors in the Vahr library to conjure something up with them. Unfortunately, he had forgotten all the spells because of his excitement. It's good that the children were able to help. And so Kessi finally pulled a book and a white pen out of the magician's hat. The children immediately knew what to do: “Put the pen on the book,” they called out to Kessi. And sure enough: when the pen was held on the book about the day at the zoo, he began to read the text, ask riddles and make animal noises. Page by page, the children discovered new tasks and sounds together with him. Finally, all the children agreed: “I want to try it out too.” It was a good thing that Rainer Kulenkampff and Hermann Schünemann from the “Friends of the Stadtbibliothek Bremen ” association had brought a large gift package with books and TING pens. The association donated a total of 30 titles and the associated pens. In the future, they will then be used in all Bremen Stadtbibliothek for the event format. Lucia Werder, deputy director of the Stadtbibliothek Bremen , thanked the association: “We are pleased that this enables us to implement a new media educational format for kindergarten children.”

TING is a hearing pen. It contains technology that combines reading and listening. The sensor on the tip of the pen reads a code on book pages. This code is linked to different audio files that belong to the book. TING recognizes the code when you tap images or text and plays the appropriate file via the integrated speaker (or via the headphone output). TING books and pens can also be borrowed from the Stadtbibliothek .
