Film recommendations for Black History Month

Black History Month February focuses on the history, culture and achievements of Black people in the USA. The month is primarily celebrated in the USA and Canada, but increasingly also in European countries.

The streaming portal filmfriend is dedicating a collection to Black Story Month that also draws attention to the fate of other people of African descent.
Among other things, the drama “Monsieur Chocolat” tells the story of the clown Rafael Padilha, who was the first black artist to appear on stage in France. “Desert Flower” describes the fate of the Somali woman Wales Dirie, who is discovered by a star photographer and becomes a top model. But behind the glamorous facade lies a moving fate.

You can also find documentaries about the boxer Muhammad Ali, the Brazilian soccer star Pelé or the apartheid system in South Africa in the collection. There are also many other exciting films to discover. You can stream the films and documentaries offered on filmfriend for free with your BIBCARD.

There are various activities in the Stadtbibliothek Bremen for Black History Month. We are also a cooperation partner of Bremen Black Story Month, which focuses on the history and lives of black people in Bremen.
