Ceremonial awarding of the 68th Bremen Literature Prize

awarded
the Bremen Literature Prize on Monday, January 24th The Berliner received the award for her novel “Daheim”.
Matthias Senkel received the sponsorship award for his volume of short stories “Winkel der Welt”.

At the ceremony in the Upper Town Hall, Bremen's State Councilor for Culture Carmen
Emigholz praised both books as outstanding works of fiction.
“People who read a lot of fictional literature intuitively recognize that this cultural technique
can provide beneficial relief and enormous enrichment, especially in times of crisis.
Reading transports you to other worlds, increases imagination, promotes
multi-perspective skills, promotes and requires different perspectives
- and also sharpens critical thinking.
Viewed this way, reading is an act of emancipation, enlightenment, and culturally based personal development,” said
the State Councilor for Culture.

Due to the pandemic, the award ceremony in the Upper Town Hall this year only took
place on a small scale with invited guests.
Last year, the award was presented virtually to the winners.
