Nationwide reading day in the central library

Airport boss Jürgen Bula read in the children's library

It is considered the largest reading festival in Germany: The initiators DIE ZEIT, Stiftung Lese and Deutsche Bahn want to arouse enthusiasm for reading and reading aloud and have invited people to the nationwide reading day for the 13th time this year. The Stadtbibliothek Bremen was also there again. On Friday, November 18th, airport boss Jürgen Bula read from the book “Lindbergh: The Adventurous Story of a Flying Mouse” (Torben Kuhlmann) to an invited school class in the children's library of the central library.

After being welcomed by library director Barbara Lison, the children of the 2nd grade of the Lessingstrasse elementary school eagerly followed the story of “Bremen's Flying Mouse” and also actively followed Bula's request: “If you read something wrong, the teacher always complains. Today you can do that with me!” With the help of the children, the head of the aircraft department unpacked more and more interesting gifts from the red “reading case” he had brought with him: flashing lights, sweets, hats, stuffed animals and even a voucher for a tour of the airport.

The day of action follows the idea: everyone who enjoys reading aloud reads to others on this day - for example in schools, kindergartens, libraries or bookstores. Last year there was a record participation: over 48,000 readers took part in the nationwide reading day, including many celebrities from politics, culture and the media. The initiators brought the Nationwide Reading Day into being 13 years ago, so that children in particular would be read to even more and, if possible, everyone in Germany could enjoy reading.
