Bremen Literature Prize goes to Teresa Präauer

Teresa Präauer receives the Bremen Literature Prize 2024, worth €25,000, for her novel “Cooking in the Wrong Century,” published by Wallstein Verlag. “ In her novel, Teresa Präauer combines humor, analysis and existential unrest in a unique way,” the jury explains the award.

Teresa Präauer was born in Linz in 1979 and studied German and fine arts. Wallstein Verlag published the novels “For the Ruler from Overseas”, “Johnny and Jean” and “Oh Schimmi” as well as the large essay “Becoming an Animal”, the story book “Happiness is a Bean” and the collection of short stories “Girls”. She was awarded the aspekte Literature Prize (2012), the Erich Fried Prize (2017) and the Ben Witter Prize (2022), among others. Teresa Präauer lives in Vienna.

Katharina Mevissen the €6,000 funding award for the Bremen Literature Prize 2024 for her novel Mother's Voice Break, which was published by Klaus Wagenbach.

The prizes will be awarded on January 22, 2024 in Bremen City Hall. On the evening before the award ceremony, January 21, 2024, a moderated reading by the two award winners will take place at 6 p.m. in the Glocke. The 48th Bremen Literary Week will be held around the time of the award ceremony.
