Barbara Lison honored with the Federal Cross of Merit

For her many years of nationwide and international commitment to libraries, our director Barbara Lison was honored on February 21st by Bremen's mayor Dr. Andreas Bovenschulte was honored with the Federal Cross of Merit. The honor comes in a special year, as in October Barbara Lison will celebrate her 30th anniversary as director of the Stadtbibliothek Bremen .  

In his speech, Bremen's mayor emphasized that Barbara Lison's commitment not only shaped the development of public libraries in Bremen, but also radiated far beyond the borders. “She is actively involved in international and national library associations. Even during the Corona pandemic, she is committed to social cohesion, networking and exchange within the library world, but also to ensuring that they are reopened for the people of Bremen. She is currently President of the World Association of Libraries and is therefore considered the most important stakeholder for libraries worldwide,” says Bovenschulte.
