“A push for Bremen primary school children”
To foster a love of reading from primary school age, the Stadtbibliothek Bremen in cooperation with the Senator for Education, has been implementing the reading promotion project AnSchuB (All Schoolchildren Our Library Card) since 2015. Right at the start of the second semester, all first-graders in Bremen receive a reading motivation package from the Stadtbibliothekat their school, thanks to the financial support of the Collegium Foundation.
The children of the elementary school on Augsburger Straße had a special treat on Thursday, February 8th, as they received their AnSchuB envelopes in person during a reading from Nikola Schroth (representing the ill Senator for Children and Education) and the deputy library director, Lucia Werder. The two representatives were delighted that the children were already able to name numerous and diverse favorite books.
Thanks to the free AnSchuB library card, children whose parents agreed to their participation when registering for school can now use the Stadtbibliothek Bremen and practice and improve their reading skills with the help of a wide selection of diverse children's books. Author and songwriter Christine Raudies demonstrated, through an exciting story in which the entire world of books had to be saved and two songs about reading, just how much fun it is to be enchanted by books.
The Stadtbibliothek Bremen invites not only all first-grade classes but also their parents to visit the library with their children. This will allow them to see the library's offerings firsthand and, if desired, obtain a regular children's library card, which allows them to borrow not just two books, but all children's media.
