"Zine Workspace: The Library as a Place of Remembrance"
Description
Public libraries are important places of remembrance. They can help us remember the past, understand it, and thus contribute to a better future. But what memories does the library evoke? And why are these memories significant? It is precisely these lesser-known memories that we will explore: for they determine how people perceive the library and how new visitors find their way there—or not.
All library visitors are invited to explore these and other questions creatively and artistically in an open workspace. The aim is to create zines, which will be compiled into a book that will be available for free in the library starting in spring 2025. Zines – short for magazines – are mini-books and mini-magazines folded from a single sheet of paper.
They are guided by the artists' collective VON WEIT HER(GEHOLT) and Dr. Melike Peterson, head of the project »The Library and the Right to the City«, a joint project of the University of Bremen and Stadtbibliothek Bremen.
