“We would have told each other anything” Reading and conversation with Judith Hermann

Description

A childhood in unconventional circumstances, divided Berlin, family ties and chosen affinities, long, happy summers by the sea. Judith Hermann talks about her writing and her life, about what holds writing and life together and connects them with each other. Truth, invention and mystery – where does a story begin and where does it end? How reliable is our memory, how close are our dreams to reality. As in her novels and stories, Judith Hermann captures an entire attitude to life: with a clear poetic voice, she tells of the sensitive center of life, of friendship, departure and freedom.

Judith Hermann, born in Berlin in 1970, debuted with great response in 1998 with the stories »Sommerhaus, later. The volume of short stories “Nothing but Ghosts” followed in 2003. In 2009, “Alice” was published, five stories that received international acclaim. In 2014 she published her first novel, “All Love Begins.” The stories “Lettipark” followed in 2016, which were awarded the Danish Blixen Prize for short stories. Judith Hermann has been honored with numerous awards for her work, including the Bremen Literature Prize in 2022 for the novel “Daheim”, published in 2021, which was nominated for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize. The author lives and writes in Berlin.
