Prof. Ottmar Ette: “The Miracle Bunker”
Description
The focus of the evening is Ottmar Ette's book "Wunder Bunker" (Wonder Bunker), which is simultaneously a historical novel and thriller, a parable of the 1940s and 50s, and an animal fable about the depths of human existence, a family history and a love story that reflects the origins of our time. This is the second reading evening for the book: Following the reading on February 11 at the Bunker Valentin memorial site, Ottmar Ette focus particularly on the urban space of Bremen in his novel in the Wall Hall.
The novel is a reminder of Germany's largest bunker. Bunker Valentin is a symbol of German and European history, as well over a thousand forced laborers from across Europe died in its labor and concentration camps. Since the guards also came from many countries, the bunker not only embodies European history, but also, through the biographies of architects and camp commandants, of those tortured to death and survivors, tells a story of ruptures and continuities, leading from the bunker's unhealing wound to the world of the economic miracle.
The novel will be moderated and read by journalist and education consultant Antje Bielfeld-Müller.
