Reading Art: Dr. Katrin Möller-Funck – Walter Kempowski, “I want to become an archive…”

Description

Walter Kempowski was born in Rostock on April 29, 1929. He was an archivist, writer, and educator. His nine-volume book series, the "Deutsche Chronik" (German Chronicle), and his ten-volume "Echolot" (Echo Sounder) project recount contemporary history. Kempowski describes the decline of the German middle class from the German Empire to the 1960s, drawing on his family history and interviews. The "Echolot" is a collage of diaries, letters, autobiographical recollections, and photographs from the Second World War. Kempowski left behind a substantial body of diaries, children's books, and founded an archive for unpublished autobiographies.

Lecture: Dr. Katrin Möller-Funck is the managing director of the Kempowski Foundation, Haus Kreienhoop, which was founded by the author in October 2005.
