"The University of Bremen: Excellence with social responsibility"
Description
The University of Bremen was founded in 1971 as a reform university and has developed into a research-intensive, medium-sized comprehensive university. With its strong acquisition of external funding and innovative approaches, it was already successful in the Excellence Initiative competition of the German federal and state governments in 2012. In the current Excellence Strategy, it achieved a significant success in May 2025: two Clusters of Excellence were approved – one in maritime research ("The Ocean Floor") and another in materials science ("The Mars Perspective"). Building on this success, the University of Bremen, in partnership with the University of Oldenburg, is now aiming for the designation of University of Excellence.
The lecture by Professor Dr. Jutta Günther (Rector of the University of Bremen, economist and social scientist) outlines the path to this goal, shows what this has to do with society and what opportunity it presents for the entire region.
Greetings from: Erich Kruschel (Deputy President of AWO Bremen) and patron Prof. Dr. Rudolf Hickel.
