»Christian Winterstein: “Who were Otto and Elise Hampel?”«

Description

We don’t know much about the people of the workers’ resistance, the so-called “resistance from below”. Who were Otto and Elise Hampel? The staged reading of the same name by the social educator and cultural worker Christian Winterstein together with Wilhelm Holthus introduces the two Berlin resistance fighters who protested against the Nazi regime with postcards between 1940 and 1942. The basis for this is, on the one hand, the surviving Gestapo and Nazi justice files and, on the other hand, the literary treatment of the fate of the Hampels in Hans Fallada's novel “Everyone Dies for Himself” (published posthumously in 1947). The mutual comparison of the content from the historical documents and the novel passages ensures an informative and exciting approach. In the end the question is, what can we learn from the Hampels today? Christian Winterstein, born and raised in Bremen, has been dealing with the worker couple's resistance campaign since 2015.
