Bremen Book Premiere: Prof. Dr. Christfried Tögel & Jörg-Dieter Kogel – Sigmund Freud in the Eyes of Others. Biographical Vignettes with a Touch of Gossip
Description
Professor Dr. Christfried Tögel and Jörg-Dieter Kogel shed light on aspects of Freud's personality that have been neglected in secondary biographical literature. To this end, they analyzed approximately 12,000 pages of largely unknown biographical material compiled by Kurt Eissler, the founder of the Freud Archives in New York, through authorized interviews with more than 350 individuals. Using these recollections of the founder of psychoanalysis, the authors illuminate previously hidden facets of Freud's personality, such as his treatment of children as equals, his profound interest in the plight of blind people, his attitude toward money, and his political views.
Professor Dr. Christfried Tögel is a leading Freud biographer and editor of the 23-volume Sigmund Freud Complete Works, completed in 2023. He has published over 150 works on psychoanalysis and was head of the Sigmund Freud Center and director of the SALUS Institute in Magdeburg.
Jörg-Dieter Kogel worked for over 30 years as a culture editor at ARD. He is a member of the ARD Historical Commission, co-founder of the Günter Grass Foundation Bremen, and a board member of the Wolfgang Koeppen Foundation.
