On August 30, 2022, Mikhail Gorbachev died. Two days later, journalist Bettina Schaefer working on this book with the aim of publishing her memoirs on the first anniversary of Gorbachev's death as a contribution to dignified commemoration of the man who wrote world history. In conversations with Bettina Schaefer, 21 colleagues from the inner circle, companions, employees and friends from Russia and Germany, the USA, Switzerland and Sweden reported on their encounters with Mikhail Gorbachev between the years 1985 and 2022. A wealth of previously unknown facets of him are revealed personality emerges. We learn how far Gorbachev was ahead of his time and how much his humanity shaped political thought and action. Gorbachev was an opportunity and hope for a better world.
